We offer international scholarships ranging up to 20,000 a year for five years for architecture and 18,000 for art and design. Those are the top scholarships. There is no application process; all students are considered for these. They are merit-based.
UB - University at Buffalo:
The International Freshman Scholarship
The University at Buffalo offers merit-based scholarships in varying amounts to qualified international freshmen. Scholarship awards vary from $4,000 - $5,000 per academic year renewable for up to four years with good academic standing. Each year, 20 – 25 of these prestigious scholarships are awarded.
The International Freshman Scholarship:
* Is awarded only to qualify incoming freshman (first year) students who have no course work or credits completed at a post-secondary institution.
* Is open only to full-time international students who will hold an F1 student visa (or in the case of Canadian citizens be eligible for the F1 visa status) at the time of enrollment.
* Is only available to students initially enrolling in the fall semester.
* May be combined with other UB scholarships (see information about other scholarships below).
* Is reserved for top students.
Application & Review Process:
* There is not a separate scholarship application form. Just submit the regular International Student Application form; download now (click here). Applicants using the online SUNY application form or the Common Application are also considered for the scholarship.
* All Freshman applicants will be automatically reviewed and considered for the scholarship as part of the application review process.
* The following criteria are taken into consideration:
o Scholarships are awarded using a holistic measure; that is, everything is considered together; while GPA and test scores are important, they are not the only criteria.
o Grade Point Average (GPA): most scholarship recipients have at least a B+ average (or the equivalent).
o SAT test scores: although the SAT is not required, it is strongly recommended and encouraged.
o Essay: a one page essay about why you want to study at UB (the content and ideas of the essay are more important than the grammar).
o Teacher Recommendation: at least one letter of recommendation from a teacher who can comment about your potential as a university student and your extracurricular activities.
Apply early. For scholarship consideration, we recommend you apply well before February 1. Scholarship awardees will be announced in late March. Thereafter, scholarships are awarded only if they are still available; in some cases, a Scholarship Wait List is established and any awardees will be notified in the summer.
The Provost Scholarship
These scholarships are very limited and awarded to only the very best applicants. Provost Scholarships start at $2,500. International applicants usually have the following qualifications: have a high school average of 90, have a high SAT I score (minimum 1300 on the critical reading and math sections) and have taken the most challenging high school curriculum available. International freshman applicants who believe they meet these criteria and are interested in this program, should apply early (by December for the following fall semester). A separate application is not required.
The Presidential Scholarship
UB"s top entering freshmen are awarded Presidential Scholarships. This scholarship covers full tuition, fees, housing, board, books, travel, and other school-related expenses for four years of undergraduate study. To be considered for this award, students must show outstanding academic merit with a minimum unweighted high school average of 95 and a combined SAT critical reading and math score of at least 1470. Students who receive Presidential Scholarships are automatically admitted to the HonorsCollege and must maintain good standing within the program to keep their scholarship.
A separate application is required for this scholarship in addition to the general UB application and is available from the Honors Office. Contact Erik D"Aquino (firstname.lastname@example.org) to request an application. Apply early; the regular application and the separate scholarship application must be received by December.
Students with exceptional academic and extracurricular backgrounds may be admitted to the UB University Honors College (http://honors.buffalo.edu); admission to this special program is by invitation only. A special application is not required. While the UniversityHonorsCollege is not a scholarship program per se, it offers a rich academic and experiential program and the opportunity for access to related scholarships and fellowships.
Students invited to join the UniversityHonorsCollege receive special privileges. Privileges and benefits may include priority class registration, preferred on-campus housing, personalized advisement, evenings with faculty, faculty mentors, social events, a special notation on your transcript, and access to and guidance about special scholarships and fellowships.
To be eligible for consideration, you would need a high school average of at least 93 percent and an SAT I score of at least 1300 (critical reading + math). A special application is not required; but you must submit the regular application by December 31. Notification announcements will be made in March.
The University at Buffalo is part of the Mid-American Conference (MAC) and offers Division I athletics. We recruit athletes from all over the world, especially our neighbors in Canada. Student Athletes are usually at the top of their division or conference levels in secondary schools. We offer athletic scholarships in the following sports: Baseball, Basketball (Men (M) & Womens (W)), Crew (W), Cross Country, Football, Soccer (M&W), Softball, Swimming (M&W), Tennis (M&W), Track & Field, Volleyball (W), Wrestling.
University of Rochester
The responsibility for covering educational expenses (e.g. tuition, fees, room and board) rests with the student and his or her family. International students must submit proof of their family"s ability to cover the estimated cost of the first year"s educational expenses, as well as projected support for subsequent years of study at Rochester.
Canadian and Mexican citizens may apply for need-based financial aid, but must demonstrate the ability to pay the difference between the total cost of attendance and the financial aid package to secure a student visa
All applicants who need a student visa to study legally in the United States must complete the International Financial Support Form and return it to the Office of Admissions, along with copies of current bank statements.
Every application for admission is automatically considered for merit scholarships from the University of Rochester. In evaluating a student’s academic strengths, unique background and skills, a merit scholarship may be awarded. Scholarship amounts for all students (American and international) typically do not exceed $10,000 per year. If awarded a merit scholarship, international students need only demonstrate the ability to pay for the remainder of the educational expenses.
Eligible non-citizens follow the same financial aid application process as eligible US citizens. Please visit the First Year Undergraduate Students page of the Financial Aid Office website for further details about the financial aid application process.
Eligible non-citizens and permanent residents must send acceptable proof of United States permanent resident status: a photocopy of form I-551 or Alien Registration Receipt Card (green card), or a photocopy of the passport page indicating approval of application of I-551. Send this documentation to the Financial Aid Office as soon as reasonably possible.
Alternative Student Loan Financing
Alternative student loan financing is available for international students. However, a U.S. co-signer is required. For more details, please visit the preferred student loans section here to visit lender sites and review borrower requirements.
International Students enrolled at the SimonSchool
International students without a US co-signer may also consider applying for the International Student Loan offered by Access Group. Information about this loan option is available through the SimonSchool website. Please note that having a cosigner that is a US citizen or permanent resident provides students with more favorable loan options
including better interest rates and/or loan terms. Only students who are enrolled at the Simon School of Business are eligible to apply for this loan.
International students are eligible for academic scholarships that the college offers, which range from $3,000 - $10,000/year. Scholarships begin at a 2.5 GPA with a 900 SAT (400 minimum on each section) or a 19 ACT, plus an essay and one letter of recommendation. We also have an Honors Program that provide full tuition remission and a trip to OxfordUniversity the summer before the student"s senior year. We require a 3.6 or higher GPA with a 1200 SAT (550 minimum on each section) or 27 ACT, plus an essay and two letters of recommendation.
If you would like more information, I would be happy to provide it. Our counselor for international students is Faride Rodriguez, who can be reached at email@example.com.
